How would you introduce yourself beyond the titles and accomplishments? Who is Delfina Sena at her core?

That’s an excellent question, and one I’ve been reflecting on a lot over the past year, since becoming a mother. It may sound like a cliché, but I would first say: I’m a mom. On the surface it might sound “small,” but now I know how much it encompasses. To begin with an endless capacity to love and to care without boundaries; followed by a developed capacity to prioritize and manage crisis situations (I’m laughing inside!)

At my core, I am passionate. Passionate about life, and passionate about art.

Your path weaves together art history, curation, and digital innovation. How would you describe the thread that ties it all together for you personally?

Curiosity. Curiosity was what first led me to study and work in art, and since then curiosity has been leading every movement, decision and next step in my professional and personal life.

Where do you turn when you need inspiration – be it for a curatorial project, a podcast episode or simply to reconnect with yourself creatively

I always come back to museums. It’s incredible the power that exhibitions and permanent installations can have on me. A good scenography, an interesting text, a deeply moving piece of art, an installation that I don’t understand… It all helps me to dive deeper into inspiration.

As someone deeply immersed in the art world, how do you personally define creativity today – and has that definition shifted over time?

I would say that today creativity is a lot about reimagining. Creativity has indeed evolved, changed and adapted a lot over time. Nowadays, I think we are in a shifting moment towards creativity. Thanks to many new tools – one of them AI  –  we see in art how creativity expands to territories we didn’t even know. I had the chance to interview artist Sofia Crespo, who uses AI in her practice. She told me that our imagination has boundaries, therefore, we can not imagine or invent something we don’t know/haven’t seen. Nevertheless, AI can help going through those boundaries and create new things from existing ones. Isn’t it exciting? I’m eager to see what’s coming next!

At my core, I am passionate. Passionate about life, and passionate about art.

What has sucess come to mean at this stage of your journey? Has that definition envolved from earlier in your carreer?

Definitely yes! In the past, I believed that quantity was what gave things value. Today, my mantra is, in the words of Mies van der Rohe, “Less is more.” While he originally used it in reference to architecture, for me it applies to every aspect of life. Clarity, simplicity, and restraint consistently lead to stronger and more meaningful results.
This is exactly the principle we embrace at 100 collectors: we focus on delivering the essential, but always with quality. And I couldn’t be happier with that approach.

Why 100 collectors started, and how was it envisioned as different from other platforms in the art ecosystem?

100 collectors began in Lisbon as a response to the needs of collectors. Both digital art collectors and physical art collectors were curious about each other’s worlds but didn’t quite know how to bridge the gap, so we decided to create that connection. From there, the project grew into a vibrant community where collecting and digital art are at the heart of the encounter between these two groups.

What started in Lisbon quickly became global. Today, we come together in different cities around the world for artist studio visits, art fairs, exhibitions, talks, dinners, and much more.

Curiosity was what first led me to art – and it’s been leading every step since.

From Lisbon to global chapters, how do you see 100 Collectors evolving—and what kind of collector or community do you hope it continues to nurture?

I see 100 collectors becoming a key reference for art collectors when it comes to knowledge and art advisory: a true go-to platform for anyone wanting to expand their understanding of art, and digital art in particular. More and more people may not yet be committed to collecting digital art, but they are certainly curious about it. We aim to be the trusted point of reference for them, as well as for other stakeholders in the art ecosystem, including art fairs, museums, and galleries.

Looking back at your journey, what advice would you give to your younger self?

This question made me smile! I would advise her to do exactly the same: embracing both the mistakes and the successes, the effort and the complicated steps. I’ve learned so much along the way that I would simply tell myself: “Hang on and enjoy the ride. You’ll see, it’s all more than worth it!”

What’s a question you wish people asked you more often?

How are you, for real?
