Embracing creativity: a journey in design and architecture

When Alina first contacted me last September for help with her brand, Manufaktura Studio, I could never have imagined the incredible connection we would form. What began as a client relationship quickly blossomed into a genuine friendship as we discovered our shared passion for art, design, architecture, and commitment to excellence in our work.

As we collaborated to develop her brand, I grew to appreciate and admire Alina’s dedication, empathy, and unwavering focus on her clients’ dreams. I’ve been fortunate enough to see her in action, when she effortlessly managed stress and devised creative solutions while helping me organize the SWS Anniversary Dinner.

Now, not only am I proud to have been part of the creation of a brand I truly admire, but I am also grateful to have gained a cherished friend in Alina. I warmly invite the community to find inspiration in her interview and join us for our coffee talk. Sharing a coffee with her and listening to her perspectives is always a delight, and her warm, kind, and inviting presence is sure to captivate you.

What does creativity mean to you, and how do you incorporate it into your daily life?

Creativity, to me, is the ability to see the world through a unique lens and transform ideas into tangible, functional, and aesthetically pleasing spaces. As a mother, wife, and architect, I incorporate creativity into my daily life by constantly seeking inspiration in the world around me. I find that even the most mundane aspects of life can offer valuable insights when approached with an open mind. Whether it’s designing a new space or spending time with my family, I strive to infuse each moment with creativity and meaning.

What inspired you to pursue a career in architecture and interior design, and how has your creative vision evolved over time?

I was inspired to pursue a career in interior design by my love for creating harmonious, inviting, and elegant spaces. My creative vision has evolved over time, as I have learned to balance my minimalistic approach with the unique needs and preferences of my clients. I am passionate about understanding the emotional impact of design and strive to create spaces that inspire, uplift, and provide comfort.

What role do you believe creativity plays in our overall well being, and how can we cultivate it in our lives?

Creativity plays a significant role in our overall well being, as it fosters personal growth, self-expression, and resilience. By engaging in creative pursuits, we develop a deeper connection with ourselves and the world around us. To cultivate creativity in our lives, we should remain open to new experiences, explore different forms of art, and surround ourselves with people who challenge and inspire us.

How do you stay motivated and inspired when faced with creative blocks or challenges in your work?

To stay motivated and inspired when faced with creative blocks, I take breaks to clear my mind, spend time in nature, and engage in activities unrelated to my work. I also find it helpful to seek inspiration from other creative fields, such as fashion, art, or literature, and to collaborate with fellow designers to exchange ideas and perspectives.

Overcoming self-doubt and fear of failure begins with taking the first step and giving yourself permission to explore your creativity.

In your opinion, what is the most important characteristic for a creative professional to possess, and how have you developed that trait in yourself?

I believe the most important characteristic for a creative professional to possess is resilience. In a field where innovation and originality are paramount, facing setbacks and criticism is inevitable. I have developed resilience by focusing on my passion for design, embracing constructive feedback, and learning from my experiences.

Can you share with us your view on the role of architecture and design in shaping our environment and society?

Architecture and design play a crucial role in shaping our environment and society. They have the power to influence our moods, behaviors, and interactions with one another. By creating spaces that prioritise sustainability, accessibility, and beauty, we can promote a more harmonious and inclusive society.

How do you balance the artistic and functional elements of design in your work, and what advice do you have for other creatives who may struggle with finding that balance?

Balancing the artistic and functional elements of design can be challenging, but it’s essential to create spaces that are both visually appealing and practical. I focus on understanding my clients’ needs and preferences while staying true to my minimalistic, elegant approach. My advice to other creatives is to prioritize communication and collaboration to strike the perfect balance.

What advice do you have for individuals who may be hesitant to pursue a creative career or hobby, and how can they overcome self-doubt or fear of failure?

To those hesitant about pursuing a creative career or hobby, I would say, trust your instincts and embrace your passion. Overcoming self-doubt and fear of failure begins with taking the first step and giving yourself permission to explore your creativity. Surround yourself with supportive individuals and seek mentorship from professionals in your desired field. Remember that setbacks and criticism are natural parts of the creative process and use these experiences to learn and grow. Embrace the journey and be patient with yourself, as developing your creative skills takes time and practice.

By sharing my passion for design and encouraging others to explore their creative potential, I hope to contribute to a more vibrant, inspired world.

What other creative pursuits or hobbies do you enjoy outside of your professional work, and how do they inspire or inform your design approach?

Outside of my professional work, I enjoy traveling and exploring new cultures, which allows me to experience different ways of living and understand people’s lifestyles. These hobbies help me unwind and provide a different creative outlet that often inspires and informs my design approach. Engaging in diverse creative pursuits can broaden our perspectives and enhance our overall creative abilities.

Lastly, what do you hope to achieve through your work in architecture and interior design, and how do you hope to inspire others to embrace their own creativity?

Through my work in interior design, I hope to create spaces that improve people’s lives and inspire them to embrace their own creativity. I believe that thoughtful, elegant design can have a profound impact on our wellbeing and our connections with others. By sharing my passion for design and encouraging others to explore their creative potential, I hope to contribute to a more vibrant, inspired world.
