The Mediterranean summer is all about savouring the simple joys that make life feel just right. It’s the warmth of the morning sun on your skin as you sip your first coffee of the day, the sound of gentle waves lapping at the shore, and the feeling of sand between your toes. It’s taking a slow walk down a winding path through olive trees, finding that perfect, quiet spot on the beach where you can just be.

Summer is also about taking time for yourself—time to do nothing at all. The dolce far niente, as they say in Italian. It’s a season for reconnecting with who you are, for letting nature heal you, and for allowing the sea to wash away the stress of everyday life. In those moments of stillness, you find the space to breathe, to let your mind wander, and to feel truly alive.

I always feel most alive in these moments. It’s when I feel free to create—to capture the world around me through photography. Nature inspires me with her endless beauty, offering a canvas of light, colour, and texture that longs to be photographed. I let myself be guided by the rhythm of the waves, the play of shadows, and the vibrant hues of the landscape.

And then, when I return home, I come back recharged, with my batteries full of beauty and new ideas that have quietly bloomed during my summer escape. The simple pleasures of summer not only fill my days with joy but also renew my spirit and prepare me to embrace whatever comes next.

Let’s forever keep summer in our souls.

Andreea Mitran (Purcărea) is a digital & analog photographer, available for creative projects around the world. Always fascinated by the ocean, the sun, traveling, cinematic light, and the unscripted beauty of life, people & nature.

BLOOMING

This book is a testament to Andreea’s specialty of capturing the coexistence of human emotion, daylight, and nature, and the fabulous ways in which all of these are able to shape one another in the intensity of the moment. Most of the memorable episodes in Andreea’s life occurred in the presence of the caressing touch of the sunlight. Thus, photography became her natural form of expression. This instinct is always influenced by the flow of the moment, her vision is as a crescendo, unique every step of the way, capturing the moment’s tenderness in everlasting images, mirroring the unicity of each step in the blooming phase of a flower. This book encapsulates Andreea’s vision of human sensitivity, natural beauty, and light, with an underlying focus on femininity.

The Measure of a Hand. MACHEIA

MACHEIA was founded in 2020 by Lucrezia Papillo, an Italian-German product designer trained at the Bauhaus University in Weimar, and Iany Gayo, a Mozambican-Portuguese architect who studied at Lisbon's Instituto Superior Técnico. Two women, two disciplines, one practice built on the conviction that the oldest techniques still have the most to say.

What We’re Reading This Summer

Summer loosens its hold on the calendar. The days stretch, the reading slows, and a book becomes the best kind of company: the one you choose entirely for yourself.
